Legislative Activism
“I believe students are in unique positions as fulcrums for social change.”
In a world steeped in division, how can young people, in collaborations with peers and mentors, in political and cultural institutions, and in communities large and small, fight for the human spirit? As a burgeoning youth leader uniting my local community and beyond, I feel compelled to be outspoken, cultivating the life of a public servant through legislative activism, advocacy, and addressing my community’s needs, and by not simply envisioning a more just world, but taking actions to make that world a reality. I’ve seen firsthand the heart of effective leadership: having a vision for what is possible and creatively identifying the most impactful form an initiative can take, adapting to the community’s ever-evolving needs. With this in mind, I’ve always sought to listen first and understand a situation, and then take action in a way that is maximally effective given the context.
My legislative activism and advocacy spans various causes, but locally, I’ve co-organized the March For Our Lives (LI), various anti-hate rallies, and speaking as a panelist in roundtables hosted by elected officials, combating all forms of hate and discrimination, particularly those against the AAPI community, gun violence, and fighting for women's reproductive rights. These are all issues which I believe my generation has to take a stand for, and as I refuse to sit idly by without making my generation’s voice heard. Below are some examples of my work!
